Red Moon on Winter Solstice

Red Moon on Winter Solstice, originally uploaded by *ice.

Winter solstice this year coincided with a lunar eclipse, an event so rare that the last the time it occured was in the year 1638. During an eclipse the moon passes through the earth's shadow but the sunlight scattered in the earth's atmosphere eluminates the moon in a mystical red light. Clear skies and some experimentation with a tripod and my early morning coffee helped me produce a few decent shots of this amazing event. A very special day.
